The Tango Reflections threesome was born as a result of the original collaboration between bandoneon player Pablo Mainetti, double bass player Horacio Fumero and Adrián Iaies for his first albums recorded in Barcelona: “Tango Reflections” and “Nocturna”. The threesome developed their work around a strictly jazz-based way of conceptualizing tango, an idea that Iaies had been working on for years.
“Astor Canges” was recorded live at La Trastienda, an emblematic venue in Buenos Aires, over the course of two nights. The score features a series of classical tangos, such as "El Marne", "Nocturna", "Silbando" and Piazzola’s classic: "Decarísimo", as well as some of Iaies’ compositions, like the one who gave name to the album, and a rare piece: "What are you doing the rest of your life" by Michel Legrand, a composer that was one of Iaies’ biggest influences.
The sound of this album reflects the camaraderie and mutual understanding of three musicians that have played together for years and toured the most diverse corners of the planet.
